The Extended Cut

Hi, I’m Wendy! I didn't used to be a finance nerd. It started when I was 24, staring down a mountain of grad school debt with no idea what to do about it. I'm a detailed and organized person. I love designing more efficient ways of doing things. But I knew nothing about how to manage my money. I realized, no one ever taught me this stuff. Not in school, not at home, not at work, but I needed it for just about everything in daily life!
Since I can't not understand and figure things out, I had to teach myself. But how? From the same place I learned most things: books! I started with a couple of books on personal finance. That led to podcasts, articles, and whatever else I could find, and it led to an epiphany: money could be a tool working for me, not a nebulous fear working against me. I didn’t have much, but I had a plan. Suddenly money became easy. It became a source of security and confidence, even despite the mountain of debt. My heart told me, "Everyone needs to know about this!"
So I started talking about money to anyone who would listen, and I watched some of my friends’ relationships with money start to change. It expanded to sharing my Excel budget templates and to sitting down with friends to go over their finances in depth. And it worked! I was hooked on seeing their epiphanies. So much so that I eventually left my career in Film & TV production for it!
